Technology Overview
Nanopharma's efforts are based on
a new family of β-lactam
antibiotics (N-alkylthio β-lactam)
highly effective against bacterial infections caused by
Staphylococcus and
Bacillus microbes.
Unlike traditional
β-lactam antibiotics
such as penicillins, which inhibit cell wall crosslinking proteins and afford a
broad spectrum of bacteriocidal activity, our patented compounds are
bacteriostatic in nature, highly specific and operate through a distinctly
different mode of action.
We believe the inherent qualities of these new
compounds are essential in order to develop better and effective alternatives to
conventional antibiotics. Furthermore,
contrary to most drugs
which usually require demanding multi-step syntheses or
semi-synthetic procedures, our beta-lactams can be prepared in a single chemical
step, thus allowing us to develop new antibiotics quickly and without expensive equipment and/or elaborate techniques.
